Winter Festival Of Lights

This flag display changes back and forth from the Canadian flag to the U.S. flag

If you're looking for something different to do in the winter, spend a night in Niagara Falls exploring the Festival of Lights.  I took my grandson with me this year for the 'annual drive through'.  Cars slowly meander down the parkway, occasionally stopping to take a picture before the honking begins.  The animated and lighted displays are engaging but the main attraction remains the Falls itself which is lit up in all the colours of the rainbow.  Newcomers are fascinated.  As a local, I found that my fascination with the annual ritual was waning.  The displays have remained pretty constant for a few years now and somehow I became aware that nothing stood out to differentiate it from last year....or the year before.  It wasn't until I was home that the thought of actually parking and getting out of my car and taking a stroll through the lights might create better memories.  So, that's on my to do list this winter.  I think it would be even prettier if I wait for the snow to blanket the ground.

What I never tire of is sharing the Festival of Lights with a group of 'first-timers' and enjoying their reaction to the awesome trip down the Parkway.  Next week, I am guiding my first Festival of Lights bus tour for the season.  They're in for a real treat and if the weather permits, hopefully we'll get to spend enjoyable time seeing the sights outside of the bus as well.
